Catalogue of agri-food processing centres in rural areas of the Basque Country
As part of the SARETZEN project, the Catalogue of Agri-Food Processing Centres in Rural Areas of the Basque Country has been published; this tool compiles and raises the profile of food processing centres in rural areas of the Basque Country.
The catalogue is a key tool in this cooperation project led by Leartiker in collaboration with three small producers from the sector —Conservas Garai, Maskilu Koop. Elk. Txikia and Mimintzepe Farmhouse— and in collaboration with Zabaia Rural Development Association, representing MENEKO (Federation of Rural Development Associations of the Basque Country). The result is a resource that provides a better understanding of the reality of rural agri-food processing and helps foster synergies between the various stakeholders in the sector.
The publication brings together useful information on the processing centres, including details such as:
- Type of processing centre
- Products they produce
- Whether they produce organic products
- Type of health authorisation
As well as providing access to this information, the catalogue aims to become a dynamic and constantly updated tool. Producers interested in taking part in the initiative are therefore welcome to join at any time.

Collaboration to strengthen rural communities
The cooperative project was launched with the aim of providing new tools and knowledge to small-scale producers who operate food processing facilities in rural areas, helping them to tackle challenges such as product diversification, adapting to market demands and improving their marketing strategies.
By identifying common needs, exchanging experiences and developing collaborative approaches, SARETZEN seeks to promote innovation, generate useful knowledge for the sector and boost the competitiveness of small agri-food producers in the Basque Country.
The initiative is funded by the European Union and the Basque Government, and aims to contribute to the sustainable development of rural areas through innovation, cooperation and the creation of new opportunities for small agri-food producers.
The catalogue can be viewed and downloaded here.
