The auxiliary manufacturing materials are an important part in the manufacture of a composite part, which is carried out by the infusion or vacuum bagging process (in or out of an autoclave). In particular, large parts with a surface finish on one side only, such as ship hulls or wind blades, are manufactured by the infusion method and parts with higher requirements, such as those in the aerospace sector, by the vacuum bagging process. These auxiliary materials are vacuum bags, aeration fabrics, bleed blankets, peel ply, resin feed tubes and distribution meshes. Currently, incineration is the main destination of this waste.
The main objective of the IMPLICIT project is to implement a circular economy system, based on a combination of mechanical, physical and chemical recycling of these auxiliary materials to obtain the purest possible original polymers (mainly polyethylene: PE, polypropylene: PP, polyamide: PA and polyester: PET). This cycle will be closed by introducing these polymers into sectors such as the automotive industry (through components and fabrics) or street furniture industry. This will reduce the consumption of fossil resources: maintaining the long-term sustainability of the supply chain and reducing the negative impact of these materials on the environment at the end of their useful life.
