The LAMIPoC (Laser Assisted Microfabrication of POC diagnostic microfluidic devices) project proposes a cost-effectiveness study of ultrafast laser-assisted microfabrication with the goal of identifying a faster, cheaper alternative for the large-scale production of microfluidic devices. This study will also evaluate lasers’ ability to create functional surfaces, with the aim of improving the wettability of polymeric parts that are typically required in diagnostic assays and microfluidic cell culture applications.
The development of a solution for the large-scale production of medical diagnostic devices is aligned with the strategic priorities of smart industry and personalised health care as established by the EU and addressed in the Science, Technology and Innovation Plan 2030.
The expected results are aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Health and Wellbeing, by striving to contribute to the industrial scale-up and commercialisation of medical diagnostic devices at the point of patient care.
